Are You Thinking Out of The Box ? | Richmond, BC RPC Childcare
[This is a 2 part Post on the affects of computer gaming has on our kids. ]
In my years being a childcare worker not just at RPC Childcare Facility alone but in other centers in the lower mainland, I have noticed over the years an increase with the use of computer gaming devices.
Whether it is a nintendo ds or ipod touch, to xbox's to ipads, technology has certainly become more and more accessable both in price and ease of use. Now a days when you goto a restaurant you are bound to see kids all with the gadgets just mentioned above, when at one point it use to be a book or coloring pad.
Thought:
Does the increase of the use of these fun gaming devices hinder our kids from using their imagination ?
Does it also hinder our kids from "THINKING OUT OF THE BOX" when it comes to solving problems in their lives, trouble shooting homework issues or friendship disagreements ?
TEST:
Try this simple game.

The goal of this mind tester is to draw 4 straight lines through all the dots without cross a dot twice.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Think about having a reading time instead of gaming time.
- Maybe have your child do an activity that might need the use of their imagination.
- Maybe enroll your child in an arts workshop or lesson for a few weeks for a change of pass.
- Spend sometime developing meaningful conversation with your child.
- Become curious with them about even the smallest things; just bring the kid out in you.
