5 Ways To Get Your Kids Talking | Richmond, BC RPC Daycare

Talking is getting tougher and tougher to do.

With cell phones, computers, tablets and the internet.Along with email, texting, bbm'ing, Facebook and Twitter, it seems the "Art of Talking" is becoming more of a lost art like letter writing.
To top all this, our life isn't getting any easier either with the need to balancing  work, family and personal life. Its not just difficult. It's down right hard at times.

However with all of this allowing time to talk with your child should not be the one thing that gets cut out a midst all our activities. In fact it should be the very thing that we do more of. Don't miss out on all the things you can learn about your child or all the things your child could learn from you.

Now I know talking with children can be tough sometimes so the following are ideas that could easily improve your talks with your child each day.

5 ways to get your kids talking

1. Turn the TV OFF !

For many families today, the TV happens to be the focal point where we eat. But how do you have meaningful conversations when everyone is distracted. Sometimes the atmosphere is what hinders us from having meaningful conversations

2. Ask OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS

Don't use questions like "Did you have a good day ?". Instead try questions that force them to share with you what happened in their day with out just a simple "YES or NO". For example, "What was your most favorite thing you did today in school?".

3. Make Chat time REGULAR.

Don't just do this sporadically. Make share time consistent and regular and about ANYTHING.

4. Spend time OBSERVING what they love to do.

And then ask them questions around that interest or topic. Take the conversation as far as you can go. And Have Fun.

5. Learn NEW QUESTIONS that will help start the talk time.

Just click on this link provided below and read through the questions. There are a lot of great ones.

Have fun with all this.
Order a pizza and get some pop and ice-cream for a change and listen to what comes out of your kids mouth !
