Is it tough getting answers out of your kid when you ask them a question ?
With the advent of technology like computers, tablets, iPhones and the
explosion of social media hubs like Facebook and Twitter, it seems
communication is becoming harder and hard to engage face to face.
Though new technology is not a bad thing, we do need to recognize when
it is taking away from our family and how it is affecting our communication, Our Life.
Let's face it, after a hard day at work, what is the easiest thing to do ? Open
a meaningful conversation or to sit in front of the TV and distress from our
day ?
I encourage you though to fight for your communication time or family time and
find at least one day a month where you and your kids can do something together
or talk together without the influence of a TV or computer or some other
electronic device lying around.
No I know what you must be saying right now...
"But Rockie, what if my child doesn't say anything ?
Or what if they don't want to talk ? "
Great question. And you're right. That is just going to happen, just as much as
there are days where we will not want to talk. But we still need to choose to
take action.
Communication is a life long journey, especially if you want meaningful
conversation. It won't happen over night and there is No magic pill for it.
So you simply need to just start and be consistent about it.
If you need ideas, here is a great resource for you that has a ton of questions
you can open up with your child. Take just one of these a month even. Can you
imagine how much you will grow with your child after a year ?

Most of all, have fun doing this. No one said you can't do this around pizza
and pop and ice cream.
