Why Is Preschool Important | Richmond, BC RPC Daycare

As a parent myself with a child coming into the age where he will be eligible for preschool soon, I couldn't help but wonder, "why is preschool important" ? And if my son were to attend preschool, how important would it be for him and his development ? Like all parents I did my due diligence and started to research and here is what I have found out.
PRESCHOOL IS IMPORTANT.

Along with all the benefits that parents receive by having their child go to Preschool (read our last article on the 5 Benefits of Preschool here), here are 8 reasons why preschool is important and why you should seriously consider enrolling your child into preschool.

8 Reasons Why Preschool is Important

1. Your child gets to learn how to work in groups. There really is something to be said for understanding how to work in groups. Not only do we learn better and faster because we can learn from each other, what is more important is how our child will learn how to work as a team with others.

2. Taking Turns. Sounds common sense right ? But the reality is that the majority of our life is about taking turns and learning it in preschool will better prepare your child for kindergarten.

3. Learning how to have conversations. One of the best ways for children to grow and learn is by simply learning how to have a conversation. This simple skill will help your child understand later on in kindergarten how to manage emotions, and deal with conflict.

4. Social Skills. In all my years as a childcare worker I have not once had a request from a parent to stop their child from making more friends. Who would not want their child to have more friends and lots of them ? But more importantly, having your child in a group of children now gives you as parents the teachable moment to teach your child what makes a good friend and what does not make a good friend.

5. Play Time. Play time is the most awesome way for your child to learn almost everything in life. But to be more specific here, what play time is great for is developing motor skills, especially fine motor skills.

6. Growing and Learning from other children. I mentioned this point already but it is so very true. Learning in a group environment can accelerate your child's learning and curiosity for discovering new things that may of initially been scary for them. With the help of other children they can begin to learn faster by observing how others are playing and learning or how others are doing a certain task or action.

7. Emotional Self-Confidence. It has been a proven statistic that children who have emotional self-confidence will tend to learn quicker and be more curious to discover new things in life.

8. Preparations for Kindergarten. Preschool is an excellent way to prepare your child for the great adventures of Kindergarten.

Have listen to this video from Parent Magazine. Its a great little clip on why preschool is important in the development of our children.
