2016 Summer Day Camps | Richmond, BC RPC Daycare

Can you believe it ? We are already mid way through JUNE 2016 !

You know what that means ?

It means that the 2016 Summer and the amazing Summer weather we have been getting is literally just around the corner !

Now as much fun as it is in having the amazing summer heat and long days, it does come at a cost and that cost can be miserable when we are not taking care of ourselves.

So the following is the Top 6 Must Haves for Summer Fun if you and your family plan to take part in some 2016 Summer Day Camps . Following along with our top 6 suggestions just might be the deciding factor in having a fun filled 2016 Summer Day Camp without getting sick or injured.

TOP 6 MUST HAVES FOR HAVING FUN AT 2016 SUMMER DAY CAMPS

1. HAT

This is literally the #1 Defense from getting HEAT STROKE. The Hat is so important because it's what keeps us cool during those long outings to some of our amazing beaches like Spanish Banks or long walks through the forest like the Capilano Cleveland Dam or even places like the Aldergrove Zoological Center.

Many Heat stroke cases stem from our heads simply not being covered and the child not having enough water to drink.

These pictures are the recommended types of hats you should be sending your child for 2016 Summer Day Camps.

2. Water Bottle

I cannot even begin to tell you just how important this is next to having a hat for your child. Your child NEEDS TO HAVE a Water bottle. There are no Excuses for this.

Bottles are cheap these days especially when you go to a Dollar Store or Dollar Giant or Dollar Tree as they cost about $1.25 for a bottle. Or you can go to Costco and buy a flat of Water bottles for $4.50 that gives you 32 water bottles and keep recycling two of the water bottles. (I'll explain why TWO WATER BOTTLES in a second.)

The best practice for water bottles is to actually pack your child TWO BOTTLES. Have one filled with water that they can drink right away. Then for the second bottle, fill it up half way and put it in the FREEZER over night. Then the next morning, add some water in the bottle and pack it in their backpacks. Now at the end of the day or field trip when they are completely exhausted and tired, they will now have something cold to drink.

Your Child will be so Thankful and Grateful to you for doing this.

3. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a MUST for all summer activities.

Make no mistake, getting sun burns is painful and makes days so much more un-enjoyable.

When buying sunscreen, please make sure to buy sunscreen that has an spf protection of 30 or Higher.

I also would recommend buying the lotion. DO NOT BY THE SPRAY.

4. Lunch and Snacks

As kids are more active in the summer time, having a proper lunch is much needed. I know with all our commitments and working schedules, time in life to pack a lunch for your child becomes limited. But one of the ways to ensure your child does have a great summer experience is by making sure they have a good balanced lunch to eat.

Here are a few suggestions that might make preparing lunches easier.

1. A Good Sandwich (Please NO Nutella and NO PEANUT BUTTER)

2. Light Snacks - small bag of Chips, veggie sticks, 85% Chocolate, Jello, Fruit

3. 2 water bottles

4. Afternoon snack - cookies, jelly snack, fruit snack

5. Change of Clothes and Swimming Gear

With children from the ages of 2.5yrs to 7yrs, its recommended that you have packed an extra change of clothes for your child. You can always have the extra change of clothes in a separate bag that can be left at the daycare or you can pack extra pants and underwear and a grocery back so they can store the wet or dirty clothes in it.

When it comes to swimming gear make sure your child always has a TOWEL. A towel is the most important thing to bring. You don't always have to have a swim suit. Some will come to beach days with an extra set of shorts and underwear but the TOWEL is the most important thing to bring so your child can dry off with.

6. BACK PACK

And to have all of these things all in one bag, your child needs a good backpack. Please stay away from the cutesy backpacks and get the biggest back pack that you can by for your child. It will really serve your child well for both school and summer outings. Not only can you put all the things mentioned above in a good big back pack, your child will also have room to store their change of clothes and a jacket on the days that seem to be chilly or windy or even rainy.
